Advanced Asset Tracing Intelligence and Recovery Analysis
An asset tracing intelligence course that turns financial and open data into recovery-ready leads, asset maps and referrals that hold up in court.
Course overview
Most asset recovery cases in Africa do not fail for lack of suspicion. They fail because intelligence never becomes a list of identifiable, reachable assets. This asset tracing intelligence course closes that gap. It shows analysts how to start from a suspicious transaction report, a lifestyle complaint or a stalled corruption file, and finish with a prioritised asset map that investigators and prosecutors can act on before property is moved or sold.
Over five days, participants work through the full recovery intelligence cycle: framing recovery-focused intelligence requirements, collecting from FIU, registry, banking and open sources, testing ownership and control, and assessing dissipation risk. Each technique is applied to a running case file built around a Kenyan public official, a network of proxies and a mix of land, vehicles, bank balances and company shares. Sessions combine short briefings, structured analytical methods and hands-on work with link charts and asset schedules.
Participants leave able to produce intelligence that is specific about what can be recovered, where it sits and how quickly it must be secured, which is what restraint applications and recovery decisions depend on.
What you will be able to do
- Frame intelligence requirements around recovery outcomes rather than offences alone
- Identify the registry, banking, FIU and open sources most likely to reveal recoverable assets
- Analyse ownership, control and beneficial enjoyment to link assets to a subject
- Apply structured analytical techniques to test competing explanations of a subject's wealth
- Assess dissipation risk and prioritise assets for urgent restraint
- Prepare asset schedules and asset maps that investigators and prosecutors can use
- Produce recovery-focused intelligence referrals with clear grading and handling instructions
- Evaluate the quality and gaps of an asset tracing intelligence product
