Recovered Virtual Asset Valuation, Accounting and Financial Reporting

A virtual asset accounting course on valuing, recording and reporting seized and forfeited cryptocurrency under IPSAS and IFRS, with tight controls.

5 days Classroom, online or in-house QR-verified certificate Next intake 19 Oct 2026

Course overview

When an agency seizes cryptocurrency, its finance team inherits a hard problem. The asset has no fixed price, trades around the clock, may be held by a third-party custodian, and is not owned by the state until a court says so. Auditors then ask how it was valued, where it is recorded and who can move it. This virtual asset accounting course gives finance officers clear answers.

The course explains how the relevant accounting standards treat crypto assets, how to choose a reliable price source and valuation date, and how to distinguish assets held in trust pending forfeiture from assets the state owns. Participants work through journal entries from seizure to disposal, prepare note disclosures, and design reconciliations between on-chain balances, custodian statements and the ledger. Sessions also cover controls over keys and wallets from a finance perspective, impairment and fair value changes, and what auditors typically request. All examples use realistic seizure scenarios involving bitcoin, stablecoins and smaller tokens.

Participants leave able to account for virtual assets consistently, explain their figures to auditors and boards, and spot control weaknesses early.
