Asset Recovery Oversight for Board Members, Accounting Officers and Parliamentary Committees
An asset recovery oversight course helping boards, accounting officers and MPs ask the right questions and hold recovery institutions to account.
Course overview
Boards of asset recovery agencies, accounting officers and members of parliamentary committees are responsible for overseeing institutions that handle sensitive cases and large values. Few have specialist knowledge of how recovery works, which makes it hard to tell good performance from poor or to spot risks early. This asset recovery oversight course gives them the understanding they need to oversee effectively.
Participants gain a concise overview of the recovery process and the main institutions, then focus on their oversight roles: setting direction, approving budgets and strategies, monitoring performance and risk, and ensuring integrity. They learn to read asset recovery financial statements and performance reports, interpret statistics, question management, and recognise warning signs such as growing stocks of unmanaged assets, slow disposals and unexplained write-offs. The course also covers the boundary between oversight and interference in individual cases, and how to work with auditors and civil society. Sessions are discussion-based and draw on real oversight dilemmas.
Participants leave able to oversee asset recovery institutions with confidence, asking sharper questions and acting on the answers.
