Recovery of Proceeds of Cybercrime, Mobile Money Fraud and Online Investment Scams
A mobile money fraud recovery course on tracing and recovering proceeds of cybercrime, SIM-swap fraud and online investment scams for victims.
Course overview
SIM-swap fraud, fake investment platforms, romance scams and business email compromise cost victims in the region heavily every year, and the money moves within minutes through mobile wallets, agents, bank accounts and crypto exchanges. Recovery is possible, but only when investigators act fast and know where to look. This mobile money fraud recovery course teaches practitioners how to trace and recover these proceeds.
Participants learn how common cyber-enabled frauds work, how mobile money and banking systems record transactions, and how fraud proceeds are layered through mule accounts, agents and digital channels. They practise rapid response: obtaining records from telecom operators and banks, analysing wallet statements, identifying mule networks and cash-out points, and requesting holds on remaining balances. The course then covers restraint and forfeiture of proceeds, restitution to victims and cooperation with platforms and foreign authorities. Prevention and partnerships with industry are discussed throughout, drawing on the experience of regional regulators and providers.
Participants leave able to respond quickly to cyber-enabled fraud and to maximise recovery for victims.
