Strategic Investment Planning and Portfolio Management for Recovered Asset Funds
A recovered asset portfolio management course on planning investment strategy, building portfolios and rebalancing them to meet a fund's public mandate.
Course overview
When recovered money accumulates faster than it can be spent, it must be invested, and investment without a plan exposes public funds to unnecessary loss. This recovered asset portfolio management course teaches fund managers and investment committees how to turn a fund's mandate into a multi-year investment plan and manage the portfolio day to day.
Participants start with the fund's purpose, liabilities and cash needs, and translate them into investment objectives and constraints. They then build and test portfolios suited to regional markets, from treasury bills and infrastructure bonds to bank deposits and real estate, and learn how to plan liquidity for victim compensation, approved projects and transfers to the exchequer. Day-to-day portfolio management is covered in detail: execution, rebalancing, cash forecasting, performance review and working with external managers. A running case follows a newly created recovered asset fund through its first three years.
Participants leave with a draft investment plan and portfolio management routine they can adapt for their own fund.
