Valuation of Seized and Forfeited Assets: Real Estate, Businesses, Vehicles and Complex Assets
A seized asset valuation course on valuing land, buildings, businesses, vehicles and complex assets at seizure, during custody and at disposal.
Course overview
Valuation runs through every stage of asset recovery: it shapes the decision to seize, the value of restraint orders, the accounts, the reserve price at auction and the public's judgement of results. Seized assets are hard to value, however, because access is limited, records are incomplete and markets for forced sales differ from normal ones. This seized asset valuation course gives staff the knowledge to commission, review and use valuations with confidence.
Participants study recognised valuation standards and bases, and the market, income and cost approaches. They apply them to the asset classes most often seized in the region: land and buildings, businesses and shareholdings, vehicles and equipment, and complex assets such as jewellery, art and virtual assets. The course explains how valuation needs change between seizure, custody and disposal, how to write valuation instructions, how to review a valuer's report critically, and how to handle disputes with respondents and third parties. Practical work uses realistic case files and valuation reports.
Participants leave able to obtain reliable valuations and to use them correctly in recovery decisions, accounts and disposals.
