Banking and Bank Operations
A bank operations course on how banks work, from deposits, payments and lending to treasury, risk, compliance and digital banking.
Course overview
Banks in East Africa operate in a fast-changing environment of mobile money integration, digital lending, tighter regulation and rising customer expectations. Staff who understand only their own desk struggle to see how decisions in one area affect risk and profit elsewhere. This bank operations course gives a complete picture of how a modern bank works and how its operations fit together.
Participants learn the role of banks in the economy, the bank balance sheet and how banks make money, and the regulatory framework set by central banks, including capital and liquidity requirements. They then follow core operations: account opening and customer due diligence, deposits and payments including national payment systems and mobile money links, trade finance, lending and credit administration, and treasury. The course also covers operational risk, fraud prevention, AML/CFT compliance and the shift to digital and agency banking. Case studies draw on banking practice in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.
Participants leave with a clear understanding of bank operations and how to manage risk and service quality across them.
