Treasury and Risk Management
A treasury management course on cash and liquidity, funding, currency and interest rate risk, and treasury controls for organisations in Africa.
Course overview
Treasury functions in African organisations must keep enough cash on hand while navigating volatile exchange rates, shifting interest rates and limited hedging markets. Weak treasury management shows up as idle balances, expensive borrowing and surprise currency losses. This treasury management course equips treasury and finance staff to manage liquidity, funding and financial risk in a disciplined way.
Participants learn the role and organisation of the treasury function, cash and liquidity management, cash forecasting and pooling, and banking relationships. They study short- and long-term funding options, investment of surplus cash and working capital. The risk part covers identifying and measuring foreign exchange, interest rate, credit and commodity price exposures, and the hedging tools available in the region, from natural hedges to forwards and swaps. The course ends with treasury policies, controls against fraud and error, and treasury reporting. Practical exercises use the treasury position of a regional manufacturer and a state corporation.
Participants leave able to manage cash and funding efficiently and to control their organisation's financial risks.
