Government Securities, Fixed Income and Money Market Investment for Recovered Asset Funds
A government securities investment course on treasury bills, bonds and money market instruments for recovered asset and other public funds.
Course overview
For most recovered asset funds in the region, government securities and money market instruments are the backbone of the portfolio: they protect capital, provide liquidity and earn a return. Yet staff are often unsure how auctions work, how bond prices respond to interest rates or how to compare instruments. This government securities investment course gives them that knowledge in a practical form.
Participants learn how treasury bills and bonds are issued and traded in East African markets, including primary auctions, secondary trading and central bank systems, and what infrastructure and green bonds offer. They study pricing and yield, duration and interest rate risk, credit risk of corporate and quasi-government issuers, and the role of money market funds, deposits and repurchase agreements. Practical exercises cover bidding in auctions, building a bond ladder, calculating yields and tax effects, and monitoring a fixed income portfolio. Settlement, custody and record keeping complete the week.
Participants leave able to invest recovered funds in fixed income and money market instruments with confidence and sound controls.
